WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
People Helping People: Finding Our Move in the Movement
For the first time since 2020, the staff of Coosa Pines Federal Credit Union gathered in person on Presidents’ Day for their annual training day event. Much of the day is reserved for instruction but time is always made for fun and fellowship. This year was special because the employees were inspired by a young man who faced harsh circumstances and succeeded in surpassing some of the worst challenges imaginable due to his outstanding positive attitude and commitment to motivating others. Timothy (T.A.) Alexander was raised in the projects of Birmingham, Alabama and labeled learning disabled, but instilled with a never-quit work ethic by his mother and grandmother. At Erwin High School he became one of the most outstanding football players in the country with the opportunity to play for the college of his choice until a horrific accident in 2006 left him comatose and paralyzed from the neck down with brain damage. Doctors said that he would never walk, talk, read, write, twist – the outlook was bleak. Flash forward and that young man is now an accomplished speaker, coach, author, and beloved mentor to people across the country, from elementary students to NFL players – to credit union employees. “We don’t need it to be easy,” Timothy loves to say, “we just need it to be possible.” After triumphing over tragedy, he uses his story and voice to spark positive change in the lives of those to whom he speaks. “Live your motto, ‘People helping people’ because that’s your movement,” he said. “Every day is another day to make a difference. Coach, inspire, help others to help people; find your ‘move’ in the movement.” We will, T.A. Nothing will stop us. Coosa Pines FCU encourages you to learn about Timothy Alexander’s triumph over tragedy and schedule him as a speaker at your next event by visiting https://www.inspiredbyta.com/.
